Raised overseas as a third culture kid, I grew up moving around the world before settling in the Central Valley of California with my husband and our two children. Life has been wrought with swift transition and challenges, and I am grateful for the growth, though sometimes left reeling from the ups and downs of this life.
A significant part of my story and testimony: I do have a bipolar 1 diagnosis, and while it does not define me, it does directly affect me, often daily. Additionally, I am in active recovery from bulimia, and daily battling the urge to purge and binge eat. I wage war every day against the sin of gluttony, while pursuing wholistic integrity regarding food, and it is very difficult. But some of the best things in life are hard, and this indeed is one of them. The reward I receive from fighting for holiness, obedience, and honor to the Lord is sweet, and I am being sanctified continually as a suffering saint and servant of Christ.
So, you might call me a bipolar, bulimic Berean, of sorts. (I do enjoy a little alliteration. )
A Berean is someone who, according to the Bible, receives teachings with eagerness while also diligently examining the Scriptures to verify their truth. A Berean interprets scripture using scripture, not simply their own personal interpretation of what the Word is meaning to say.
A Berean is someone so engrossed in God and His glory, that they hunger and thirst for His truth and triumph in all the earth. I want to be this kind of Christian.
I also want those who wrestle with diagnoses of many kinds to know that they are not alone, that they are not to be ashamed for the long haul, and that there is healing available to them in Christ alone- yes, even on this side of heaven. Let’s explore that, together.
As a busy mother of two, I will always prioritize caring for my family and immediate community, while doing my best to steward all that God has blessed me with. That being said, I aim to write and post on this blog at least weekly, and I would love for you to join me in exploring the intersection of suffering and thriving on this narrow path towards the Celestial City. (Pilgrim’s Progress reference, my favorite book of all time.)
Thanks for stopping by. God bless!
